Get creative and colourful with this set of five Colour Creations Art lessons for KS1! Your class will think about their favourite colours and the colours that are all around them every day, before looking at how colours are used in art. They will learn about primary colours, secondary colours, colour mixing, and light and shade, as well as look at the artwork of artists who use colours in interesting ways, namely Kandinsky and Mondrian.

This Colour Creations KS1 Art planning pack contains five easy-to-follow lesson plans, each with a corresponding slideshow presentation to lead you and your class through the teaching input. A range of differentiated activities are provided, as well as printable resources for their independent learning, including worksheets, instruction sheets, picture cards and much more. Your Year 1 or Year 2 class will soon be creating amazingly colourful works of art they can be proud of!

 

Lesson 1: Favourite Colours

The first lesson in this Favourite Colours KS1 Art lesson encourages your class to look at the colours that are around them. They will discuss how colours are used in everyday life. Your class will then think about what their favourite colour is and find objects associated with that colour.

Lesson 2: Primary Colours

This Primary Colours KS1 Art lesson teaches your class what the three primary colours are before introducing them to Piet Mondrian and his abstract art. They will look at how Mondrian used primary colours and then use his artwork as the inspiration for their own primary colour masterpieces using either paints or collage.

This technical Mixing Colours KS1 lesson teaches your class how to mix primary colours to create secondary colours. They will have plenty of opportunity to practise creating green, purple and orange and can even create some complimentary flowers!

This lesson teaches them how to use white and black paint to create lighter or darker shades of a colour and then looks at examples of how different shades of just one colour can be used to create some fantastic artwork.
